The “BalticFuturePort” project initiated by TITUS Research GmbH is intended not only to demonstrate the performance features of the 5G mobile communications generation for commercial applications in particular on a pilot basis, but also to use them in a permanent regular operation beyond the scope of the research project. The project area includes two large terminal areas at the
Port of Lübeck
and offers the possibility to realise challenging application scenarios in real operation, which can only be implemented using 5G. In addition, concrete research questions will be addressed that arise from the productive use of 5G with regard to the performance characteristics of the mobile radio standard. In addition to the Hanseatic City of Lübeck as the project leader, the cooperation partners of TITUS Research include six other partners from business, industry and science.
The project starts immediately and is funded by the Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur (BMVI, Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure) with a total volume of around four million euros.
