Why is data important?

Digitalisation and the associated transformation process of organisations and companies create new potential in terms of productivity and efficiency. At the same time, the challenges for man and machine are also increasing. New technologies and methods are generating ever greater amounts of data and data streams in ever shorter periods of time. Thus, data is the raw material of a future, digital world.

What do I do with all this data?

The researchers at TITUS Research GmbH are dealing with the vision of a fully automated, autonomous future. Autonomous systems work based on data and produce large amounts of data, which on the one hand, are collected by the system itself as sensor data. On the other hand, intelligent systems also need reliable data, which they then use to communicate with other systems and record their environmental data. The derivation of decision-making is created by data acquisition and its analysis.

What are the synergies between data and processes?

The Department of Data and Processes deals with data acquisition, data analysis and data provision in the necessary quality. At the same time, solutions are being sought for how data that has already been collected can be optimally evaluated and made available for different business processes. The use of unmanned or autonomous systems is associated with the complete digitalisation of the corresponding process chains. Digitisation should make the processes in organisations or companies leaner, faster and more efficient and thus make companies overall more competitive.

The core topics and services

The Department of Data and Processes researchers support organisations and companies in actively tackling digital transformation. Their work focuses on applied research and development – in cooperation with companies and organisations – of the most advanced technologies.

The work of the Department of Data and Processes is intended to answer questions in two directions in this context:

  • Which autonomous systems can make which efficiency-enhancing contributions to optimising existing business processes?
  • How should future business processes be changed if autonomous systems have to be integrated?

At TITUS, the aim is to transfer unmanned systems into reality as seamlessly as possible. New technologies are thus brought to an organisation or company by both internal and external impulses. The resulting need to adapt business processes to the new conditions is part of our work. For example, we are investigating how the processes in an industrial park change when it has to handle not only passenger-driven vehicles but also hybrid transport.

Data & processes at a glance

The department consists of three elementary pillars: Organisation, Research and Consulting/Engineering.

In the field of organisation, researchers with a wide variety of backgrounds work together on interdisciplinary approaches to solutions. In addition to concept development, implementation also plays an important role here – for example, in developing individual software solutions.

The following analytical methods are used:

  • Idea generation and mindset: Design Thinking
  • Process analysis: Process Mining / Data Mining
  • Data analysis: Big Data Analytics

In the area of Research, the focus is on researching and applying the latest information technologies on the subject of autonomous systems:

  • Big Data Analytics
  • Blockchain Technology
  • process mining

Our services around digital transformation also extend into the areas of Consulting and technological implementation (engineering). TITUS aims to provide companies and organisations with the best possible support in integrating autonomous systems into their business processes and workflows. Among other things, the following methods are applied here by TITUS researchers:

  • Business process optimisation
  • Business model analysis
  • Digital transformation
  • Software development
